Kitchen Electric plug problem

The kitchen has 2 sets of double plug sockets, one set is next to my cooker and one set is next to my fridge which is on the opposit side of the kitchen.

I have a microwave oven and toaster connected to a 4 plug extension lead which is plugged *** plug of a double plug socket next to my fridge.

The above have been connected like this for the last 30 years with no problems until now.

At around 9.45pm on 7 May 2025 I was using the microwave oven to make dinner, suddenly the microwave oven (and everything else) connected *** plug of a double plug socket next to my fridge stopped working, the fridge plugged into *** plug of a double plug socket also stopped working.

I switched the 2 plug sockets on/off many times, pulled out the plugs and put them back in to fix the problem many times, then put WD40 on a tissue and cleaned the 3 brass pins in each plug (as they looked dirty), then I pushed the plugs back in to the socket and switched the 2 sockets on many times but it didn't work.

Then I felt the 2 plug sockets may be at fault and not working anymore.

I got an extension lead with double plug sockets, I plugged the microwave oven + toaster and fridge in to one side of extension lead and plugged the extension lead in to the double plug socket next to my cooker.

Then I switched it on.

The fridge and microwave + toaster worked perfectly.

So the felt the fault was with the double plug socket next to the fridge.

I lifted up the floorboards in the hallway (next to the kitchen) to see if any wires around there looked burned or cracked etc, they looked ok like they where new.

But the double plug socket next to the fridge still didn't work.

When I lifted the floor board, I saw 1 long white flat 3 core wire coming from the fusebox to the faulty double plug socket and 1 long flat 3 core wire came from the socket and went to a junction box under the dinning room's door.

From the other side of the junction box 1 flat long 3 core grey color wire came from that and went under the dinning room's floor boards to a double plug socket in the dinning room's wall.

I took photos of all this on my mobile phone and also labled the 2 flat white wires.

Then I took out my mobile phone charger and plugged it in to each of the of double plug sockets in the dinning room's wall, the charger and mobile phone didn't switch on = that double plug socket doesn't work as its connected via the junction box to double the plug socket in the kitchen which also doesnt work.

I went to the fuse box and switched the power off to my house.

The fuse box has 4 fuses, 2 fuses have 2 red dots on them = 30 amps each and 2 fuses have 2 white dots on them = 5 amps each.

I pulled out each of the 4 fuses to see if the fuse wires had blown or not.

If they had blown then it was a simple case of replacing the blown fuse wires but all the fuse wires looked ok.

I put all the fuses back and checked all the lights in my home, they all work.

I then plugged the phone charge and phone in to every plug socket in my house to check which ones worked or not.

All the plug sockets in the house except for the ones mentioned above work.

So I feel the problem is only with the non working double plug socket next to the fridge in the kitchen which is also stopping the double plug socket in the dinning from working as that is connected to it via the junction box.

Went to Romford B&Q, got a new double plug socket, (via looking at youtube videos) I wired it in correctly to try to fix the problem, plugged in some thing I knew worked to test the new socket but sadly there was no power.

Due to this I will have to call an electrician to fix the problem as I dont know what the problem is so there's no way I can fix it as I'm not an electrician. Its safer to let the experts do their job. 

I've temporarily run an extension lead from another plug socket in the house so the microwave oven + toaster and fridge etc are working ok but its only a temporary solution as the original plug socket will need to be fixed.

How much will this problem cost to fix with VAT + parts and how long will it take to fix ?

Right now to save on electrician costs per hour I just need the double plugs next to my fridge to be fully working, the double plugs in the dinning room havent been used in 15 years so don't need to be fixed now.

If the cost of fixing the double plugs next to my fridge + cost of fixing double plugs in the dinning room are the same then it would be good to get both sets working again.

If the cost fixing the double plugs next to my fridge is cheaper then I will only get that done.

Possible replacement of a central heating thermostat with a digital version, if available. Heating will currently not turn off even though the thermostat is on zero. Also, Investigate and possibly replace a set of 8 LED downlights in a kitchen.

I’ve got wires for light in porch but no live feed to it

Looking for a CubeTech LED 4” Bathroom Extractor Fan to be fitted. Have the fan, plastic piping and external cover. Hole would need to be drilled from internal bathroom tile to external included in fitting.

my pull cord to turn on extractor fan in bathroom has snapped not sure if this comes under electrical,also ceiling light covers are very rusty need replacing
